Having a say in the decisions being made in Selkirk just got a whole lot easier. With CitizenVoice you can weigh in on important issues as they arise.
The city has partnered with QuestionPro to relaunch CitizenVoice, the popular online survey tool where citizens provide input into programming, services and initiatives.
“Creating and maintaining a successful city takes collaboration and that’s what CitizenVoice empowers not only citizens to do, but those who care about Selkirk as well,” said Vanessa Figus, the city’s Manager of Citizen Engagement.
“We’re engaging the public to help us make more informed decisions.”
Engaging the community in shaping Selkirk’s future is a priority in the city’s Community Strategic Plan.
You will first need to register for CitizenVoice and become a panelist. If you have registered previously under the old platform, you will have to sign up again. It’s simple and quick to do, just go to www.myselkirk.ca/citizenvoice.
The city has partnered with QuestionPro to protect your data. Personal info is kept confidential and used for statistical analysis, improving services and making community-focused decisions.
Once registered, panelists will receive an invitation via the email address they used to sign up to complete a new active survey.
Help us improve transit services
First up, the Selkirk Transit Strategy – Transit 2.0 Survey available now.
The city is looking for input on ways to improve transit services as well as to potentially offer new public transportation options.
The survey includes questions about whether you use transit or not, and how often you use it.
If you don’t use transit, there’s a question asking what the city could do to encourage you to use it. Some of the options for answers include more frequent pickups, bus stop closer to your home, service later in the evening and service on Sundays.
The city is considering offering on-demand transit service, meaning you can book transit ahead of time or right when you need it using a smartphone app. The survey asks if you would use this service.
Riding the bus is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective way to get around the city and in the survey you’ll be asked about several other new ways to travel and if you’d consider using them.
Meeting the evolving needs of our community
“Exploring innovative transportation solutions is crucial for meeting the evolving needs of our community,” said Selkirk Transit Authority’s Manager of Transportation Services, Charlene Dunning.
“The survey aims to gather valuable insights on potential new options like e-bike and e-scooter sharing, as well as van or carpooling, to enhance mobility choices for residents.”
Selkirk Transit Authority (STA) began operating in 2011 and has provided valuable service to residents since that time. It has given just under 400,000 rides since it first rolled out onto the city streets and has continued to grow and change with the times.
It started with just two buses that could accommodate 22 riders each. STA now features six buses, one of which is a hybrid.
Selkirk’s CAO Duane Nicol says that Transit is a service that has continually evolved to meet the needs of the city, and the survey will help to inform the newest route transit will travel.
“Selkirk Transit has always been a critical service with a vision for the progressive, innovative, and environmentally responsible city Selkirk wanted to be and has become. We’re committed to taking it to the next level, and taking the survey through CitizenVoice will allow citizens to help take Transit 2.0 to places we couldn’t have imagined when we picked up our first riders in 2011.”
