Annual summer market returns bigger and better than ever
It’s back! The D.O.G Days of Summer returns to the Selkirk Waterfront starting Wednesday, August 2 and this year, it will be better than ever. Thanks to its tremendous popularity last year, the 2017 edition of D.O.G Days will be extended, running from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm throughout each of the five Wednesdays in the month of August.
The first event of the season begins Wednesday, August 2 and will occupy a major portion of the beautiful Waterfront Park. And, once again, everyone is invited to come and enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of this great annual event.
“Our beautiful Waterfront Park is pretty much a perfect setting to spend some time on a summer afternoon,” Selkirk Mayor Larry Johannson said. “We invite everyone to come out and visit with the many vendors who will be set up, browse around and just enjoy a few minutes in the great outdoors in this fabulous setting.”
D.O.G Days will feature a major Farmer’s Market will run from 11 am to 2 pm. Joy Sul, who runs the award-winning Skinner’s Lock’s Market in nearby Lockport, noted that last year’s market at the Waterfront went well beyond anyone’s expectations.
“Last year was a blur,” she said, “a true success and it is expected this year will be the same. Opening day will see 35 vendors at this point. We’ll have fresh Manitoba vegetables from Jonathan’s Farms in Lockport as well as the Veggie Lady from Stonewall, plus home baking from Lundar as well as specialty baking from Ubuntu Café. Woodworking, artists and crafters, soap making, just to name a few, will all be at the market to showcase their unique creations for sale at reasonable prices.”
The event will kick – off with a short opening ceremony at 11 am on Wednesday, August 2, featuring Mayor Johannson, among other dignitaries. An exciting line-up of local musicians and a number of food trucks will also be on site, along with unique artists and vendors who are all looking forward to be at the new Selkirk Waterfront Market that will run throughout the month: August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. The City of Selkirk’s hydration station will be on hand to keep everyone else cool as well, so bring your refillable bottle and fill up for free
