The overwhelmingly popular Waterfront Concert Series comes to an end for the 2019 season on Aug. 9, and it’ll be a fantastic closing with a few twists.
First off, it’s Music and Market Night at the Waterfront, so the great live entertainment will be combined with an incredible Night Market. Secondly, it’s being held on the Friday night, not the typical Saturday like all the other Waterfront Concert Series events, so put it in your phone’s calendar now.
Local businesses helping each other
The night market is hosted by Christina Barr and Tennille Frost, of Bud and Bloom, in collaboration with the City of Selkirk, and it features 100 per cent handmade goods.
“We are thrilled to give local artisans a venue to show off their hard work,” Barr said.
“We have an amazing line up of local makers this year.”
There will be about 20 artisans showcasing their handmade goods at the market, including:
– Homemade jams, jellies and preserves by Forever Prairie
– Local honey from Faith Apiaries
– Lemonade, bread and sweets by Ubuntu
– Handmade soap, bath bombs, etc by Barr Soap
– Beautiful wooden signs by Toban Folk Crafts
– Crochet bags and household products by Sunny Thistle Crochet
The City of Selkirk will also be selling their popular Chuck-Wear and GetOutside Gear. Thirty per cent of those sales will be donated to the Selkirk Heritage and Selkirk Parks Endowment Funds.
Even better than last year
The market, which was extremely popular last year, runs from 6pm to 10 pm.
You’ll also be able to witness two musical talents that night, with North America’s Finest Elvis – Corny Rempel taking the Waterfront Stage at 7pm before B Side Champs wow the crowd with their classic R&B renderings at 8:30pm.
Ellie Longbottom, the city’s Culture Coordinator, said people really embraced last year’s Music and Market, and this year’s promises to be even better.
“It’s the city’s one and only night market and it coincides with the final Waterfront event of the year,” Longbottom said.
“It’s unique because it’s on the Friday and I think a lot of people like that. Plus, combining the Waterfront Concert Series with the night market works out really well, it just gives people more to do while they’re down at the Waterfront for the evening.”
Many vendors accept debit and credit cards, but bring cash just in case.
