Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for many communities in Manitoba including Selkirk to persist Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24, 2022.
Storm Impacts
We are asking everyone to please minimize water usage at this time to reduce the strain on the city’s drainage system
- Selkirk Park is closed until further notice.
- Strathnaver is closed between the tracks and Hwy 9a.
- Transit routes may be affected by overland water and ongoing pumping operations.
- Hours and location of the waste transfer station can be found HERE.
- Pumping operations are ongoing.
- Water levels have gone down in certain areas allowing us to remove some pumps that have been running non-stop since the weekend to have them serviced and ready to go for the upcoming precipitation.
- Pipes have been left in place as we expect water levels to rise again with the upcoming precipitation.
- Contractors have been contacted and are on stand-by for backup if required over the weekend.
Environment Canada Information
Heavy rain bringing 30 to 60 mm to parts of southern Manitoba by Sunday.
Although rain has switched over to snow, it is mainly melting on contact, thus adding to the total precipitation amounts. Thus, despite snowfall occurring, the rainfall warning is in effect until the snow tapers off later today.
This much precipitation over frozen or saturated ground has lead to localized flooding including basements, underpasses, and the like.
Strong winds gusting 60 to 90 km/h on Saturday and Sunday are also expected. Reduced visibilities in blowing snow will occur when wind and snow align on Sunday.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
Be prepared and note the following:
