concept plan for a new regional park in selkirk's west end.

As part of its vision for the West End Lands the City of Selkirk is in the early stages of planning for the development of a new regional-scale park, located South of Manitoba Avenue behind the Walmart Supercentre and Selkirk GM Dealer, and East of Highway #9.

The area was formerly a gravel pit and nuisance grounds, currently used for construction materials waste, lies partially on provincial lands designated for future highway development and will be home to the city’s largest retention pond, limiting the potential uses for this park.

This concept plan aims to provide an enjoyable passive and nature-based park experience within the City, aligned with elements from Selkirk’s Recreation Master Strategy, such as:

  •  A focus on ‘self-directed’ recreation (walking, mountain biking, cycling, paddling, etc.),
  • Interpretive elements (environmental remediation, local ecology), and
  • Alignment with the West End Land’s future developments (mixed-use village, “Lake Selkirk” development).

We have been seeking feedback on the proposed park concept, as well as looking to understand the priorities of future users as far as park features and amenities feasible for the area.

One survey has been completed and further engagement will be taking place at a later date.
