The City of Selkirk’s Concert Series returns this summer to the Waterfront and promises to put you in perfect harmony with your summer nights in June, July and August.
Ellie Longbottom, the city’s Culture Coordinator, says the move back to the Waterfront for the June and July shows is exciting. Last year’s concerts were held on Manitoba Avenue, and were well received, but you can’t beat the beauty of the Waterfront.
“We’re really thrilled to be able to provide great music to residents and visitors to our city using the Red River as a backdrop to all the good times,” Longbottom said.
“There’s something about putting a blanket down on the grass and listening to and watching live music with boats going by on the water. It’s a really enjoyable evening. And it’s free, you can’t beat that.”
Rock, Country, Pop and everything in between
Mark June 10 in your calendar for the season opener featuring Renegade, the ultimate tribute to Styx, taking the stage at 8:30pm with the Sean Taylor Band opening the show at 7pm. The Sean Taylor Band is a six-piece, energetic party band that delivers country, rock and pop with the warning to ‘bring your dancing shoes and best singing voice’!
Styx fans and music fans in general will be impressed with the musical prowess of Renegade who will ‘meld hard rock guitar balanced with acoustic guitar, synthesizers mixed with acoustic piano, upbeat tracks with power ballads and incorporating elements of musical theatre’.
On July 22 it’s time to once again Rock the Waterfront with The ‘B’ Side Champs at 7pm followed by ZZ Topless at 8:30pm. The Champs pay tribute to classic rhythm and blues of the ‘60s including hits by Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and more. ZZ Topless promises to perform all of the legendary ZZ Tops’ greatest hits with the same musical skill and on-stage swagger. The three members – Bobby Peterson on guitar and vocals, Derrick Bellanger on bass and vocals and Cory Faraci on drums, are Canadian boys who love ZZ Top.
Popular Music on Manitoba returning
On Aug. 12 the fun moves to Manitoba Avenue for Music on Manitoba. It’s a street festival that we’ll keep you wondering about for a little while, but details will be coming soon about this family friendly event.
“Events like these create a sense of community by bringing people together to share experiences through arts and culture,” Longbottom said.
“Exposure to different forms of art and culture can broaden perspectives and increase awareness of diverse cultures.”
While you’re filling you soul with the music that moves you there will be food trucks on site so you can fill your stomach as well.

The city’s Community Strategic Plan makes having a vibrant, safe and healthy community a priority and the Selkirk Concert series achieves that goal by making use of Selkirk’s natural features and outdoor spaces, providing the best recreational opportunities for residents and by revitalizing downtown.
It’s going to a summer packed with fun. Along with the Concert Series there will be Canada Day celebrated on July 1 at the Waterfront and the Selkirk Port Market gets underway July 19 from 10am to 2pm and runs every Wednesday until the end of August.
