Get out and Enjoy Selkirk’s Parks!

Starting in July, we’re hitting the road and heading to different parks in each neighborhood, bringing the fun and excitement right to your neighborhood!

Join us each week as we explore a new park and enjoy facilitated games, activities, recreation equipment and more! Additionally, view the schedule for specifics including dates, times, locations and type of activities planned. 

Program Details

  • Ages: All ages welcome. Child under the age of 12 require a parent/guardian on site.
  • Cost: Free
  • Registration: None! Drop-in and join in the fun!
  • Location: Park locations vary. A full list of locations is found below in the schedule. Not sure where to find all of our Parks? Click here for details on each of Selkirk’s beautiful parks. 
  • Please read our Informed Consent Agreement  as well as other program policies that may impact your participation in this program.  
  • This program is weather dependent. We will cancel if there is rain and/or storms. Please check back to this page on the day of program. Any program cancellations will be listed here. 

July 2024 Schedule

  • Friday, July 5, 2024  – 1:00-2:30 pm – Selkirk Park
    • Join us at Selkirk Park for some unstructured play with our equipment trailer. We will bring a variety of different games and recreational equipment for you to try out and play with. Meet us in the field North of the Camp Awesome building.
  • Friday, July 12, 2024 – 1:00-2:30 pm – Hydro Park
    • Next, come have some fun at Hydro Park! During this session we explore leaves and other outdoor materials. Participants will have the opportunity to explore nature materials and create beautiful art with it. Plus, parents and teens can check out the fitness equipment at the park during the session. We will provide you with instructions for the equipment, along with a circuit you can follow along to work up a sweat! 
  • Friday, July 19, 2024- 1:00-2:30 pm –  Penwarden Park
    • Then, join us at Penwarden Park for some unstructured play with our equipment trailer. We will bring a variety of different games and recreational equipment for you to try out and play with.
  • Friday, July 26, 2024 – 1:00-2:30 pm – – Selkirk Park
    • Lastly, join us as we learn about different ways to preserve flowers. Participants will forge some flowers and then try out different techniques for flower preservation and pressing. You will be able to enjoy them over and over again for month if not years.

August 2024 Schedule

  • Friday, August 2, 2024 – 1:00-2:30 pm – Red Feather Farm
    • First, join CPAWS Manitoba for a nature journaling workshop! This creative mindfulness practice connects us to the outdoors and deepens our understanding of the world. Nature journaling involves quiet observation and curiosity about plants, animals, and landscapes. In this workshop, you’ll learn tips, techniques, and activities to start your own nature journaling journey. No artistic talent is required, making it perfect for beginners and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages!

      • A chair or blanket
  • Friday, August 9, 2024 – 1:00-2:30 pm – Little Lake Park
    • Next, come to Little Lake Park and study trees! You will learn about bark identification and how to estimate a tree’s age without cutting it down.
  • Friday, August 16, 2024 – 1:00-2:30 pm – Murray Sinclair Park
    • Then, join us at Murray Sinclair Park for unstructured play with our equipment trailer. You can try out various games and recreational equipment.
  • Friday, August 23, 2024 – 1:00-2:30 pm – Selkirk Park
    • Next, learn about plant biology at Selkirk Park! Discover how pine cones adapt to their environments and what happens when you put one in water. Additionally, enjoy a short craft involving pine cones.
  • Friday, August 30, 2024 – Water Tower Park
    • Finally, join us at Water Tower Park for unstructured play with our equipment trailer. You can try out various games and recreational equipment. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring bathing suits.
