We invite you to the Selkirk Age Friendly Bench Unveiling Ceremony, honoring Dr. Ian Reid. The ceremony will be on June 18th, 2024.
Furthermore, the event will be at Queens Park (342 Eveline St, Selkirk), starting at 1:30 pm.
Therefore, we encourage the community to attend and pay tribute to Dr. Ian Reid. Everyone is welcome! No RSVP required.

Dr. Ian Reid
Dr. Ian Livingstone Reid was a beloved figure in Selkirk, Manitoba. His passing in 2014 left a profound void in the community. Born on April 7, 1931, he led a life rich in accomplishments and service to others.
He cherished his sixty-year marriage to his wife Ruth and took great pride in his three children, Kim, Bruce, and Patty, as well as his six grandchildren. As a physician, he made significant contributions by establishing a community health team and crisis center in Selkirk, where he practiced until retiring in 1984.
Beyond his medical career, Ian was deeply involved in various community initiatives. He organized a Block Parents group and founded a water ski museum. His passion for water skiing extended to leadership roles in the sport. Consequently, he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Water Ski Hall of Fame, and received the Order of Canada in 1983. His commitment to service was further recognized with honors like the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
Even in retirement, Ian remained active and engaged. He pursued interests like woodcarving, singing in the church choir, and embracing new technologies. His positive spirit and dedication to helping others left an indelible mark on those around him. Ian’s legacy as a man of compassion and integrity lives on, fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
