WHEREAS The ability to read, write and communicate is empowering; and
WHEREAS Communication provides a basis to who we are and how we live together and interact with the world.
WHEREAS The freedom to read is the essence of free inquiry and essential to democratic decision making. Reading inspires the spirit of exploration and the pursuit of knowledge for all.
WHEREAS To celebrate “I Love to Read Month,” the Gaynor Family Regional Library is planning events, which will promote the public’s awareness of the right to intellectual freedom as well as the city’s diverse literary culture.
WHEREAS The Gaynor Family Regional Library endeavours to build collections that reflect the diversity of interests, cultures and languages in our city and is committed to offering a full range of fiction and non-fiction materials in a variety of formats.
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that I Larry Johannson, Mayor of the City of Selkirk, in the Province of Manitoba, do hereby proclaim February, 2019 to be “I Love to Read Month” in Selkirk and commend its thoughtful observance to all citizens.
