You can head down to the Rec Complex Jan. 30th to see the home team take on the Blues, but it won’t be the Steelers hosting the boys from south Winnipeg, it’ll be the Jets taking on the St. Louis Blues.
Rogers Communications and Sportsnet are teaming up to bring an exciting and innovative NHL Viewing Party experience to Selkirk.
“This is great news for hockey fans and I’m excited that Selkirk was chosen to be part of this cross-country Rogers and Sportsnet event,” said Mayor Larry Johannson.
“We hosted Rogers Hometown Hockey in October of 2014, and it was fantastic. It was a great family event and it’s a great way to bring community together over our favourite sport.”
Attendees will enjoy a free skate from 5-6:45pm, experience the game on the Sportsnet™ big screen at 7pm, meet NHL® Alumni with a chance for autographs, take part in activities like air hockey, giant Jenga and corn hole as well as have chances to win exclusive prizes. The concession will be open for food and drinks but since this is a family-friendly event, no alcohol will be served.
Coun. John Buffie said he’s looking forward to seeing the Jets on a big screen inside the Rec Complex.
“I’m excited that Selkirk was selected to take part in this event. We’ve partnered with Rogers in the past and it was a very successful day and I know it will be this time around too,” Buffie said.
“The Jets are hot and games against the Blues are always close ones, so it’ll be entertaining. It’s a good opportunity for hockey fans to get together, maybe meet some former NHL stars and have a fun night. I’m looking forward to it.”
Tickets are free, but if you plan on coming out, please pre-register at MySelkirk.ca/Events.
