WHEREAS: it was initiated by German non-profit WASH United in 2014; and
WHEREAS: Menstrual Health Day (MH Day) is a global day of action with more than 830 partner organizations; and
WHEREAS: working together to catalyze awareness and action towards a world without period poverty and stigma; and
WHEREAS: It is a time to speak positively about periods and help end the stigma around them, while understanding the need for equity, including providing marginalized communities with access to free menstrual products; and
WHEREAS: through open dialogue to help counter taboos surrounding periods, we can work to promote equitable access to period health and products; and
WHEREAS: the Period Purse strives to achieve menstrual equity by providing people who menstruate access to free menstrual products and to reduce the negative stigma associated with periods through education and advocacy.
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that I, Larry Johannson, Mayor of the City of Selkirk, in the Province of Manitoba do hereby proclaim the 28th of May, 2024 to be “Menstrual Health Day” in the City of Selkirk and commend its thoughtful observance to all citizens.
