WHEREAS: invasive species can result in the loss of Manitoba’s unique ecosystems and native species; and
WHEREAS: the activities of people are most often responsible for the introduction of a species to a new area; and
WHEREAS: preventing the introduction of an invasive species to a new area is the most effective way to manage it; and
WHEREAS: increasing awareness of the threats of invasive species will help prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species.
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that I, Larry Johannson, Mayor of the City of Selkirk, in the Province of Manitoba do hereby proclaim the week of April 20 – 26, 2025 to be “Invasive Species Week” in the City of Selkirk and commend its thoughtful observance to all citizens.
