Our city boasts a vast network of roads, stretching over 68,509 kilometers, including both paved and unpaved paths. Keeping these roads in top shape is an ongoing task for our dedicated Operations team. They are consistently involved in various maintenance tasks across the city to make sure that our roads and related infrastructure are well-maintained and safe for everyone.
Q. When does the City fill potholes?
A. Pothole repairs usually start in the spring once the snow melts and will continue throughout the summer and fall, as needed.
Q. What does the City use to fill potholes?
A. The preferred fill is an asphalt hot mix, which adheres to the surrounding surface better than its cold mix counterpart. Unfortunately, hot mix is sometimes not available really early in the spring as the plants that manufacture the mix don’t always have it on hand.
Q. Does the City fill potholes on all streets?
A. The City fills potholes on all streets except for those that are part of the provincial highway network, which consists of:
• Main Street South (PTH 9A) from Heap Avenue to Manitoba Avenue
• Main Street North (PTH 320) from Manitoba Avenue to the northern City boundary
• Eaton Avenue (PTH 204) from Eveline Street to Main Street
• Manitoba Avenue (PTH 9A) from Main Street to Easton Drive
• Easton Drive (PTH 9A) from Manitoba Avenue to PTH 9
The province’s Highways Department takes care of these when they have equipment and staff scheduled.
Q. Who fills the ruts/washboard on gravel roads?
A. The City fills the ruts/washboard on gravel roads by applying a new layer of gravel and smoothing it out with the grader. This can only be done once the frost is out of the ground in the spring and can continue until winter, as needed.
Q. How do I report a pothole or a gravel road that needs maintenance?
A. You can make a request for pothole repairs or gravel road maintenance by submitting a CitizenSupport ticket. Potholes are usually fixed within a few days of the request.
Q. How do I get dust control on our gravel road?
A. Dust control can be applied to gravel roads once the frost is out of the ground in the spring, and it is at the discretion of the Public Works Manager as to when dust control may be applied. The City normally puts down dust control twice a year, depending on weather conditions. You can make a request for dust control by submitting a CitizenSupport ticket.
Q. How do I report a broken curb, sidewalk or boulevard damage?
A. You can make a request repairs to a broken curb, sidewalk or boulevard by submitting a CitizenSupport ticket.
