Program Details

In celebration of I Love to Read Month, the City of Selkirk in partnership with United for Literacy & Selkirk District Community Foundation are delivering FREE children’s programming throughout the month of February. Read more about the theme of each week below. Registration is required.

I Love to Read in PJ’s Nights – Showcases a guest reader each week! Following the reading is a Literacy Activity and Bedtime Snack. Each child will get to take home the book that was read. This program is targeted for children ages 5-9 years old, parents/guardians must be in attendance at the program. Location: Gaynor Family Regional Library, 806 Manitoba Ave.

Before you register, read our Informed Consent Agreement and Refund Policy as well as other program policies.

Registration for the first session is now open. Registration for the other upcoming sessions will become available starting one week before their scheduled event date, beginning every Monday.

Registration is required. Spaces are limited and are first come, first serve. Click the register button to register for a program.

February 4 – “Meet Viola Desmond”

The first I Love to Read in PJ’s Night takes place on February 4 at 6:30 pm at the Gaynor Family Regional Library and features the book “Meet Viola Desmond” by Elizabeth MacLeod and features guest reader Avery Martin from Big Brother Canada.

February 13 – “Erick the Elk – The Big Hockey Game”

Next weeks I Love to Read in PJ’s Night takes place on February 13 at 6:30 pm at the Gaynor Family Regional Library and features the book “Erick the Elk – The Big Hockey Game” by Chloé Baillargeon, and it will include special guest readers from the Selkirk Steelers!

 February 18 – “I Am Cherished”

The upcoming “I Love to Read in PJ’s Night” is scheduled for February 18 at 6:30 pm at the Gaynor Family Library. The highlighted book for the evening is “I Am Cherished” by Onome Ako, and it will include special guest reader Raeesa Hoque from Manitoba Council for International Cooperation!

This session is in proud partnership with the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC): MCIC supports, connects and amplifies the work of our members and partners. We directly engage and collaborate with Manitobans for global sustainability.

February 27 – “Hobbledy Gobbledy learns to be thankful.”

The upcoming “I Love to Read in PJ’s Night” is set for February 27 at 6:30 pm at the Gaynor Family Regional Library. This event will showcase the book “Hobbledy Gobbledy learns to be thankful” by Sharlene Yarish who will be the guest reader for the program!
