The Evening of History, a fundraiser for the Selkirk Heritage Endowment Fund (SHEF), celebrates Selkirk’s rich past. The event features heritage presentations, accompanied by wine and beer, hors d’oeuvres, captivating entertainment, door prizes, and a 50/50 fundraiser.
Ticket sales and donations contribute to preserving local history, ensuring that future generations will have a physical municipal museum. The City of Selkirk established the Selkirk Heritage Endowment Fund in 2012 as a perpetual endowment fund to support the operational costs of a new museum. Until a physical museum is created, the fund pays out grants to the Marine Museum of Manitoba and to a dedicated staff person who manages and populates the city’s online museum.
The Selkirk Heritage Advisory Committee works closely with the City of Selkirk to plan the Evening of History. The committee focuses on preserving, protecting, and promoting buildings, structures, and lands with historical significance. Their guidance ensures that Selkirk residents continue to cherish and celebrate their history.
The Evening of History not only celebrates Selkirk’s rich past but also ensures its preservation for future generations to cherish and explore. Stay tuned for updates on the 2025 event, which will be available in the spring!
