Swim into Summer!

The City of Selkirk is proud to offer the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life programs. The Swim for Life program focuses on basic survival skills and in-water practice to develop swimming strokes and valuable Water Smart® education that will last a lifetime.

About the Swim for Life Water Safety Program

Our Swim for Life program stresses lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. We incorporate valuable Water Smart® education that will last a lifetime.

Swim Program Modules

There are 5 modules in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life® program:

  • Parent & Tot for parents and children up to 3 years of age. A parent or guardian must be in the water with the participants for this class.
  • Preschool for children 3-5 years. We encourage the parent to participate until their child lets them know they can do it themselves.
  • Swimmer for children 6 years and older. Participants MUST be 6 years of age on the first day of their lesson to take this class. 
  • Adult Swimmer for people over 16 years
  • Fitness Swimmer for people of any age who want to improve their overall physical fitness. Selkirk Park Pool does not currently offer this program. 
  • Junior Lifeguard Club builds on skills swimmers already have, JLC members work to develop and improve swimming and other aquatic skills with emphasis on: swim and lifesaving knowledge, leadership and teamwork, community education, competition and personal fitness.
Private & Semi-Private Lessons
  • Private and semi private swimming lessons are available for individuals who require or want more personalized instruction. All selections are open to children (6 years +) and adults. For semi private lessons, it is the responsibility of the participants to find the person(s) they would like to swim with, and register for the program at the same time. A semi private lesson is for 2-3 people of approx. the same ability and age.
  • Please note there is limited private and semi private lessons available at it is offered first come, first serve. Private and semi private registrations are excluded from online registration. 
  • To request a private or semi-private lessons, please complete the request form at the link below. Link will not be available until April 18, 2024 at 10:00 am. 
  • Once we receive your completed request form, please allow 7 business days for our staff to contact you to confirm details and schedule lesson dates and times.
  • Completing the request form does not confirm your lessons or confirm that your private or semi-private lesson will happen during the date or times your have requests. We will book requests on a first-come, first-served basis until full. Please allow 7 days for us to confirm your request. We will email you directly with further details and private or semi-private booking confirmation.

Progress Reports

We are excited to announce that starting June 25, 2024 the Selkirk Park Pool & Splash Pad Swimmer Progress Reports are now going virtual – no more lost or wet report cards!
To access your/your swimmer’s progress report, please visit: www.swimgen.net/search/cityofselkirk
To view the progress report, you will need to enter a unique Participant Number. All swimmer’s have been given a Participant Number, using the following parameters:
• First two letter of the swimmer’s first name. (First letter of first name is capitalized)
• Full last name of the swimmer’s last name. (First letter of last name is capitalized)
• Year of Birth
Ex: If swimmer’s first and last name was Courtney Bangert, born in 2024. The participant number would be: CoBangert2024
For those with hyphenated names, the hyphen has been included in the Participant Number.
Ex: If swimmer’s first and last name was Courtney Bangert-Murray, born in 2024. The participant number would be: CoBangert-Murray2024
Please note, there are NO spaces in the Participant Number.
Ex: If swimmer’s first and last name was Courtney Bangert Murray, born in 2024. The participant number would be: CoBangertMurray2024
Report cards will only be viewable online after the conclusion of the last class of your registered swim session. Swimmer’s that complete their level will be given their stickers/badge at the end of the last class of lessons.
For simplicity during the transition to this new format, swim instructors will provide swimmer’s with a letter at the conclusion of swim lessons that includes the swimmer’s Participant Number. The Participant Number will be used moving forward and will remain the same year after year.
